The Daniel Defense RIS III Has Finally Made it to Airsoft!

When stakes are high, you’re going to want a rifle that’s tough as a tank. When the situation changes, you’re going to want a rifle that's flexible like fiberglass. Not every rifle has what it takes to excel in both modularity and durability. Why? It’s simple: Not every rifle is a Daniel Defense MK18. In the real steel and military simulation world alike, the MK18 has become a first pick duty rifle for many. Its classic quad-rail picatinny design has become almost synonymous with the concept of a well equipped operator. You’ve likely seen it before: A holographic red dot properly mounted at the front end of the receiver, a LAM unit and flashlight for low light operations, and the user’s foregrip of choice resting at the bottom of the rail. Though Daniel Defense didn’t invent the quad rail, their immaculate execution of it has effectively rewritten media to portray it as if they did. Now that’s quite the achievement!

Despite the rifle's ongoing popularity, the picatinny rail system isn’t the same universal standard it once was a decade ago. There’s a new kid on the block, and it’s quickly winning over the hearts of weapons enthusiasts for its reduced bulk and extra modularity. M-LOK has become a new industry standard for modern AR handguards, swiftly becoming the default rail system for a plethora of AR brands. After all, you can convert M-LOK to picatinny with a rail segment, but not vice versa. These slimmer rails offer a little extra versatility and reduced weight, but they usually don’t feel nearly as indestructible or secure as Daniel Defense’s good ol’ quad rail. This left many rifle owners with a toss up; Stick to picatinny and enjoy the rugged durability of the DDM4, or go for something more sleek, lightweight, and versatile?

To this question, Daniel Defense said, “Why not both?”

And the RIS III was born.

The world of airsoft has finally caught up to Daniel Defenses latest real-steel developments! EMG has partnered with CYMA to faithfully chamber the DD MK18 RIS III in a more training friendly 6mm plastic caliber. Whether you prefer the ease of use of a traditional AEG or the realistic controls of a gas-blowback, EMG has a RIS III for you. Each RIS III comes with the newest Daniel Defense licensed stock and pistol grip, which have textured rubber for comfort and ease of manipulation. Additionally, these rifles now include CYMA’s new Daniel Defense 230rd midcaps, which have a nice grainy polymer construction to them reminiscent of the popular EPM magazines.

But is the AEG any good?

The internal design for the DD MK18 RIS III is based off CYMA’s Platinum gearbox, which is one of the highest performance gearboxes airsoft currently has to offer from factory.

Key Features of the CYMA Platinum Gearbox:

  • Electronic Trigger Unit: CYMA’s ZEUS MOSFET system replaces your AEG’s stock mechanical trigger contacts, offering amperage control and a snappier trigger response. Though these electrical units have had sensitivity to over-amperage in the past, CYMA has since improved the design to greatly increase the lifespan of each microchip.

  • High Speed Wire Cut Gearset: These gears are responsible for the CYMA Platinum’s lightning fast trigger response. On an 11.1v Li-Po battery, full auto rate of fire should be around 28 rounds per second!

  • Reinforced Compression Parts: The full-steel rack piston and CNC aluminum air compression components greatly increase AEG lifespan and shot to shot velocity consistency.

  • QBS Quick Spring Change System: No tools? No problem! The QBS spring system allows you to access your main spring for quick FPS adjustments just by unscrewing the castle nut on the buffer tube.

The standard 10 inch rail configuration not exactly your cup of tea? Fret not! There's a RIS III for every playstyle!

Looking for a little extra rail length? No problem!

Need something a little shorter to dominate close quarters engagements? Done and done!

Don’t worry, my fellow gas-blowback enthusiasts. We haven’t forgotten about you!

Designed around CYMA’s new CGS line, the new RIS III GBBR isn’t just any ordinary gas M4. The CGS system draws inspiration from Tokyo Marui’s incredibly popular MWS system, greatly improving the platform’s cold weather performance and overall reliability. The bolt consistently locks back on an empty magazine when adequately gassed, and the recoil puts a bit more force into your shoulder than a standard MWS. I highly recommend this rifle for anyone looking to maximize their airsoft realism with a modern rifle they can depend on!
